Everyone wants to describe themselves as “aesthetics”; if not themselves, then they at least need their houses to be aesthetically pleasing. Artisan products are the best way to bring some aesthetics to people’s homes and lives.
However, it isn’t easy to find authentic artisan products, and it isn’t easy for artisans living in remote and rural areas to get their due when you keep buying products from Amazon.
Problem Statement
Big giant companies like Amazon, Etsy, and Shopify don’t give their due to artisans; this is one of the problems, among others, which are mentioned below:
- Artisans living in remote and rural areas don’t get access to online markets.
- If artisans finally get to the markets, they get exploited by the middlemen.
- Artisans are usually not well-versed in technology. Hence, they lack an understanding of digital marketing, photography, and the economy.
- Buyers find it difficult to find authentic artisan products.
- Online marketplaces are usually not transparent with their product sourcing and pricing.
- Aware buyers also have issues with labour practices.
- Artisan product enthusiasts are always on the lookout for a trustworthy and seamless online shopping experience.
Solution
Dedicated Yellow Slice designers Vidushi and Sonalika answered all of these problems with a product called Karmakar that provided the following solutions:
- Karmakar is a platform that allows artisans to display their products and buyers to find everything on one platform.
- The app categorises shops with information about the artisan to give them enough recognition and humanise the app.
- Additionally, regional filters are provided to refine searches further to help customers find products quickly.
- Features will be published monthly on individual journeys, shops, and production.
Expected Outcome
- Tooltip walkthrough helps artisans to maximise the app’s potential and learn technology.
- The app offers comprehensive multilingual support, AI-driven help, and direct human support, helping remote artisans get employed.
- Buyers can converse directly with artisans to address their specific needs.
